Dance classes for ages 8 and up

In our 45 minute, 8 and older classes, students of all levels will continue to work on basic skills while learning new, more advanced skills. Each class is tailored to the level(s) of its students. Our non-competitive dance classes provide students of all abilities a framework for progressive development in tap, ballet, jazz, contemporary and hip hop dance.

Ballet

Dancers will strengthen their ballet technique and foundation through barre work, center work, combinations; as well as, work across the floor. Ballet is the technical foundation essential for all dance styles, and highly recommended to strengthen the dance physique. Classes range from 45 minutes to 1 hour depending on the level.

Class attire:
Girls may wear any style black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes, and hair in a neat bun. Shoes required for class and the Spring Show are pink ballet shoes.

Boys may wear any style fitted white t-shirt/tank top, fitted black shorts or black tights. If hair is long, it should be worn back and off the face. Shoes required for class and the Spring Show are black ballet shoes.

Jazz

In this level, we will explore the core style of Jazz, as well as, a variety of other jazz styles. Leaps, turns, and dance combinations are taught and pushed at a fast paced in a friendly and supportive environment.

Class attire for boy and girls:
Any style or color of fitted clothing. Hair pulled up and away from the face (if applicable). Shoes required for class and the Spring Show are tan jazz shoes for girls and black jazz shoes for boys.

Tap

Dancers will learn and combine basic tap steps. They will continue to learn how to hear different rhythms through fun combinations and have the opportunity to combine and create new invigorating rhythms of their own.

Class attire for boys and girls:
Any style or color of dance or athletic wear. Hair pulled up and away from the face (if applicable). Shoes required for class and the Spring Show are black, lace up tap shoes.

Contemporary

Contemporary focuses on self-expression, and awareness of the body, through fluid dance movements across the floor and in combinations. Students will also learn basic improv techniques to strengthen each dancers style and ability. Ballet is a good complementary class.

Class attire for boys and girls:
Any style or color of fitte clothing. Hair pulled up and away from the face (if applicable). Tights are not required. Shoes required for class and the Spring Show are tan pirouettes.

Hip Hop

Dancers will strengthen their footwork, ability to isolate their bodies, and push their bodies to master new tricks. They will also learn combinations to fun, high-energy music. (We love to bring back old-school hip hop styles too!)

Class attire for boys and girls:
Any color or style clothing. Clothing can be loose, but should not inhibit dancing. Something that covers the knee for protection is highly suggested. Hair pulled up and away from the face (if applicable). Sneakers required for class. Shoes required for the Spring Show are clean, all white tennis shoes.
